No Greenhouse Gases

With C02 levels at 390ppm and rising, climate change may be the defining human challenge of the 21st century. We need a scaleable, secure, low cost and low carbon energy technology that can supply our growing global economy while preserving our environment. The DBI thorium reactor, which generates clean, green and C02-emissions free electricity, is an important part of the solution.

The earth’s atmosphere is a blanket of gases that surrounds and insulates the earth. The blanket, composed of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, water vapour and trace amounts of other gases protects the earth from solar ultraviolet radiation as well as from extreme temperature variations. Of the atmospheric gases, carbon dioxide and water vapour play the largest roles in absorbing radiated solar energy and maintaining earth’s comfortable temperature range.

Since the advent of the industrial revolution, humans have been using the heat of fossil fuel combustion to power industry. Carbon dioxide, a product of combustion, consequently has been building up in the atmosphere. Today, the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is at 385-390 ppm, 40% higher than it was at the start of the industrial revolution. Rampant deforestation also has contributed to the current atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.

A scientific consensus today agrees that anthropomorphic carbon dioxide emissions have caused the earth’s average temperature to increase at a rate that will change life as we know it. A global political consensus is following suit and today is starting to grapple with the economic, social and political implications of climate change.

As the human population continues to grow, the need for clean, green and C02 emissions-free energy production will grow as well. The DBI Thorium reactors, cost-effective, mechanically-robust, safe and CO2-emissions free, represent a key technology that will reduce C02 emissions while still providing for our voracious energy-consuming global economy.

At present, the DBI thorium reactor designs are a highly cost competitive energy production solution. As carbon taxes and carbon caps become the international norm, the DBI reactor technology will become even more economically attractive.
